After a wonderful two week break its time to get back to the wonderful adventure of learning. If you are looking for a challenge to get your mind running after the break try this:
There are seven sisters standing around the kitchen table. Each one has seven backpacks. In each backpack, there are seven large cats. For every large cat, there are seven small cats. How many legs are there in the room? Can you solve it without a calculator? Also for those looking for other science fair ideas for their project check this out: http://tinkerlab.com/science-fair-project-ideas/ See you at school tomorrow! Mr. B. Hopefully you are enjoying the winter break with your families and friends as I am. For those of you that are planning out your science projects for our upcoming science fair some things that you will want to think about:
I have put some links below that might give you some ideas: http://www.education.com/science-fair/elementary-school/ https://owlcation.com/academia/How-to-do-a-Great-Science-Fair-Project-and-Board http://spaceplace.nasa.gov/science-fair/en/ http://www.projects.juliantrubin.com/science_fair_project/index.html With the weather today, maybe an experiment about how the dinosaurs may have shoveled... http://giphy.com/gifs/ZLC0TMJYgpqM0 - Mr. B. Yes it has been quite some time since the last post so here is an effort to get it going again. We have begun exploring Sky Science and learning about what lies beyond our world. I saw this bright light in the sky at sunset while walking on Nose Hill. Facing West you can see Venus shining brightly on these long fall nights. If you can, go outside on a clear evening at dusk and look for those first shinning spots of light. You just might be looking at another planet as both Venus and Mars are easy to make out from Calgary this week. Happy sky viewing! - Mr. B. It has been an exciting last two weeks of learning as we get to know each other as learners and as members of our Gr. 5/6 community. We have been reviewing our mathematical concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division through a variety of hands on activities and discussions. We have also been making regular use of our outdoor learning spaces at the school as we examine leaves and trees while identifying their characteristics. We enjoyed a design challenge as we built towers while working cooperatively in a team. We also had a visit with the team from Seed Spreader which is an interesting program supported by Agrium that explained to us the importance of agriculture practices to the production of our food and we now all have a sunflower of our own to care for!
Only a couple of days left until we begin our new adventure! Just a few reminders for our first day together:
See you on Tuesday! - Mr. B. After a coffee and tea fueled meeting (with perhaps a muffin for good measure) the dynamic team of Webb, Wright and Banke have set into motion our exciting plans for our learning year to come. We are so very excited to get to know all of our learners (that's you!) and for them to get to know us. Less than two weeks to go until it all begins! - Mr. B.
